Chase Away The Winter Blues With Green

According to The Art Career Project “Green is the color of nature. Considered the most restful color for the eye, green can transcend a sense of confidence and security when used in interior design. Green symbolizes growth, harmony, freshness, fertility, and generally makes people feel emotionally safe.”

I just happen to like green. It brings life from the outside inside. Just about every shade of green can be found in nature mixed together side by side. With the line between outdoor space and indoor space constantly blurring these days, it’s no surprise that it is one of the most versatile neutrals today. Here are several ways to liven up your decor with green.

Add Some Plant Life

It’s not rocket science. No matter what your interior looks like, it will look better with the addition of something living. If you don’t have a green thumb don’t worry about it. If I can learn to keep things alive for a reasonable amount of time, then I promise you can. Don’t expect things to last forever. Just enjoy them while they last and remember, you have most likely had them longer than you would cut flowers.

You can always find pretty potted house plants at the indoor section of your big box store. Place or plant them in a pretty container…voila: instant green.

You can also simply bring in some cut flowers from your yard.

Artwork

Most often artwork with a green palate will work well in most interiors, instantly livening up the space.

The above image is a gorgeous interior created by Paloma Contreras. Without question the landscape painting is the star of the show. Just as if you were looking out the window, the beautiful lush, green landscape adds vibrant color and life to the room.

I love this sweet little water color created by Lindsay Conrad.

Paint

You have heard it a million times. Paint is the quickest, easiest way to create high impact change in your home. Go green on your walls, cabinets or just on a piece of furniture.

Both of the above beautiful interiors were designer by Sarah Bartholomew and can be seen in the May/June 2018 issue of Traditional Home.

Bring a little green into your interior. It might just put a little spring in your step and chase away the winter blues!
